Stop The Presses!

I'm in the middle of a different post but I just saw this and had to STOP!

This is exciting news.

California Supreme Court overturns gay marriage ban

I firmly believe that each small step we make in the right direction will make each next step easier. I was devastated when my state voted to not allow gay marriage AND to not allow civil unions - although most people who voted for this measure did not realize the last little tag was stuck on there. I hate that while my capital city is progressive and liberal and passionate about everyone's rights, the rest of my state is very closed minded. That is a generalization but sadly accurate. I hope and pray that this step taken by California is the beginning of undoing so much of the hatred and misunderstandings.

This country is poised for change. Big Change. The political climate is explosive and I'm thrilled to be a part of it. I have several big change issues that drive who I will and will not vote for in the presidential election. Gay rights, Roe v Wade, the war, illegal immigration, the economy... BIG CHANGES. We need BIG CHANGES!

I was happy about this too until my wife pointed out that the timing is pretty bad - this will energize the religious right to come out in droves this November.

I had not thought of that. CRAP!

I wouldn't worry too much. I have trouble believing that the religious right were ever going to vote for Obama and they always come out in droves. PLUS, they voted for George to keep this from happening and look how much that helped. I think all those deaths in Iraq are starting to weigh on people's minds.
